Hey Folks,
So what does Master Yoda and Star Wars got to with you succeeding at your fitness goals you may be asking? Ha Ha I’d be asking the same question if I didn’t know what I’m about to share with you, Read on….
Well you should now be aware that having goals is pretty much redundant unless your goals are set up in a specific way. We know from my previous post that your goals setting should be done the S.M.A.R.T. way. Your idea of a perfect body, ideal dress size etc etc is nothing more than a pipe-dream unless you have clearly defined what your goal is and how your going to get it. So where are we? Right so you taken the 5 Expect Success Fitness Golden Rules for goal setting and you changed your goal from “Lose weight” to “I will hire a personal trainer and exercise 45 minutes three times a week so I can lose 17 lbs and fit into my favourite Jeans by the 1st July. It’s not going to be easy to lose 17lbs in five weeks but I am willing and able to work hard to achieve this goal.”
Note: Now obviously if your goal is to lose weight, don’t just take the above goal and use it as your own, by all means take the core principles that the above goal stands for but get cracking on setting your own personalised, individual Fitness Goals (If you need help, feel free to contact me).
Okay so we now have our Fitness goal set – is there a way we can improve upon this goal even further? Yes, yes there absolutely is!! I showed the next stage in my last post but either no-one spotted it or you did and you were just too shy to comment on it
no one won the special prize I had planned – no matter, next prize will have double the rewards so
So how can we improve upon our S.M.A.R.T. Fitness goals? This is where our Jedi Mind tricks come into action. Stay with me…
Okay think for a second – imagine for a second that you really want to get a new car, not just any car but you really want to get a Mini cooper. You start looking up Mini Coopers online, you do a bit of research and you find out all about Mini Coopers. You decide you want a Metallic Royal blue Mini Cooper with the white stripe. Now this is where the Jedi mastery comes into play…
Everywhere you go you start seeing Metallic Royal Blue Mini Coopers, you see magazines with them on the cover, you see someone driving past you in them, you’ll find yourself driving past the Mini Cooper car dealerships looking at them, everywhere you go you’ll see that Metallic Royal Blue Mini Cooper with the white stripe – you start to think your going crazy ya? You’ll start to think there’s a conspiracy out there for you to buy this car. Far from it. (Now this example above was used specifically as I bet my sister Liz can testify that this was the case when she wanted her Mini Cooper…)
That mini Cooper car dealership has always been there, them people driving past you have been there, them magazines were always there the only thing that has changed is you’ve programmed your mind (Jedi Mind tricked) to start seeing them as important to you NOW so it filters in this information and filters other information out.
Here’s some science type malarch on it for ya…
We receive over a million bits of information per minute through our senses but we can only focus on about 200 to 300 of these at once and out of those only about 20 of them can be really focussed on with any great attention. The way our brain process whats important from whats garbage is through our reticular activating system. This is our brains built in filtering system and the way it works is through what thoughts are in our mind consistently. So by going back to the Mini Cooper example above – by focussing your thoughts on getting that Metallic Blue Mini Cooper – your letting your mind know whats important so its added to your reticular activating system as something important so each time your brain receives some info on it, it’s instantly red flagged and you take notice of it.
Pretty cool huh? Well we can actually apply this technique to our Fitness Goals with unparalled success – how do we do that your asking? It’s simple I even gave you an example in the last post – you change one small thing in your goals.
When I mentioned one of my Expect Success Fitness goals in my previous post there was one subtle difference from the other goals set, it was written in the present tense, as if it already happened. It was written as if the goal had been achieved – it was written in way I could actually visualise my success from reading it. Here it is again:
“…….by 1st of January 2012 I have spent at least one hour every evening designing and building my Expect Success Fitness website with the help of Aaliyaan my web developer. I have a lot of distractions but this goal is important to me and I’ve willingly worked hard to achieve it.….”
When you write your fitness goals in this way your letting brain know it’s super important to you so it’s gets a red flag in your reticular activation system and your brain highlights every bit of information that’s tied to your goal highlighting it, in turn you become aware of more and more things that will help you achieve your goal because you’ve Jedi Mind tricked – (okay not really but you get the idea) that anything got to do with that goal is important to you, your programming your brain to focus on your goal and just like the Mini Cooper example – everywhere you’ll start seeing things and becoming aware of things that will help you achieve your Fitness Goals.
This small change to your Fitness Goals is something if done will shock you how effective this is…
Have you any story similar to the Mini Cooper one above? If you do leave a comment below and share it!
